  CCC College Week | May 20-26, 2012

CCC College Week

Join us this summer for COLLEGE WEEK —a unique experience of serving people in need, working on exciting home repair projects, and building Christian community with others. During the week of May 20-26, 2012, you and your friends will gather at the beautiful Camp Guilrock along with other college students from all over state. Each day you will go out in small work teams to perform home repairs for elderly, disabled, and impoverished folks throughout western North Carolina. Projects range from building wheelchair ramps to helping with odd jobs around the house. You will also have opportunities to share the love of Christ and minister to the emotional, social, and spiritual needs of the people you serve. Your time at camp will also include community-building, worship, and laughs planned and led by our college leadership staff!

College Week 2012 is designed to help you make a meaningful difference in the lives of others while stretching your own faith, people skills, servant and project leadership development and compassion. With over 24 years of experience, Carolina Cross Connection is known for helping people develop life-changing relationships with each other and Jesus Christ.

Where & Where

Unwind and make a difference at the end of this school year! Camp Guilrock is just a 40 minute drive from the Triad area of Greensboro, High Point, Winston-Salem, NC. The camp features the best in camping—200 wooded acres, an 8-acre UMYF Lake and two other small lakes, and the Haw River! A perfect location for fishing, canoeing, and peaceful walks and worship. It’s a great place for connecting to God and others after a fulfilling day of service. We will be staying in lodgins, so bring your own bedding and toiletries and we’ll take care of the rest, including tools. There are bathhouses on site with showers and a full dining facility with meals prepared completely for you!

Arrive Sunday of the camp week between 9:30 and 11:00 am for check-in. Sunday afternoon will include a time to get to know one another, dinner and coordinating Christian Mission Groups (CMG’s or work crews) for the week. Monday-Friday will include a morning devotion and breakfast followed by deployment to service sites (with lunch on site). In the late afternoon your CMG returns to camp for dinner, recreation, worship, sharing, and laughs with the entire group. You will depart Saturday morning following breakfast. You provide your own transportation and together with your staff, you will arrange your transportation to and from the work site each day.

Requirements for College Week

  1. Participants must be current college students or college-age (18-22 years old).
  1. Though you do not have to be a Christian to attend CCC, we recommend that you are at least open to learning more about Christ and serving others. People of all Christian denominations are welcome to attend.
  1. CCC does not discriminate against gender, race, or national origin.
  1. CCC does not discriminate against those with physical or mental handicaps, though these issues should be addressed with the CCC staff prior to attending.
  1. No previous experience in CCC, other missions groups, or construction is necessary! Campers will perform a variety of home repairs of varying degrees of difficulty. Some folks may not be experienced in performing such tasks, and that’s okay! Through our preparation materials and our summer staff’s instruction, we will teach how to do the work required and empower you to do tasks of varying difficulty.
  1. We request that all College Week participants to commit the entire week. The CCC experience is based on a tightly-knit community that works, serves, plays, and worships together. Arriving late, leaving early, or leaving and then coming back are disruptive to this community and can rob people of valuable experiences.
  1. Vehicles: If you attend CCC with a group (e.g. church, campus fellowship, etc.), you must provide at least one vehicle for every six participants you have. These vehicles will be used to transport campers, tools, and a lunch cooler to and from worksites each day. Vehicles must be capable of safely carrying 6-7 passengers (i.e. equipped with 6-7 seatbelts), with room to spare for hauling some tools. Obviously, larger vehicles are preferred, if possible. Owners are responsible for all vehicle expenses during the camp week, including gas.
