In addition to serving families in need of home repairs, Carolina Cross Connection strives to build a tight-knit community among our campers, encourage Christian growth, and just have a lot of fun! Our summer staff incorporate a variety of in-camp activities throughout a camp week to meet these goals.
On this part of our website, you can find some of the creativity activities we have used in the past. Our hope is that these will help you plan activities for your youth group, whether you have been to CCC before or not.
Many of these ideas are straight from the creative minds of our staff folks, and we hope to keep most of their ideas "public domain." We have not copyrighted anything of our own devising, and we will try to cite and/or provide links to any published sources from whom we have borrowed ideas.
If you have other resource ideas that are not listed on this site, we'll be happy to post them here! Just email ccc@carolinacrossconnection.org with your idea. Enjoy!
In recent years, CCC staffs have begun incorporating more small group meetings in morning and evening camp schedules. These are small communities within the larger camp community that grow together and discuss spiritual topics throughout the week.

Each morning at CCC, campers enjoy a period of time called "Morning Watch." In the midst of the busy camp schedule, this is one of the few times to be silent and alone with God, spending time in prayer, reading and meditation on scripture, and enjoying His beautiful creation. The staff also hand out devotions to help guide this time and give campers a thought-of-the-day. Many of the devotionals we use come from published devotional books and writings, however, many others are written by staff members and friends of CCC. Below you can freely browse and download some of these original works for gatherings, retreats, or your own personal, devotional use.
- Eventually - 2004 - Jon Putnam
- Where Is God? - 2000 - Dave Andrews
- Using Our Talents - 2000 - Erin Smith

- Hold It Up to the Light - 1998 - Ashley Dorsey

We use mny different songs for worship at CCC, including modern worship songs, hymns, and the occasional "cross-over" mainstream song. Since there are many copyright restrictions associated with music on the web, we are not able to provide resources on our site. We will, however, recommend to you some other great sites good for finding worship song lyrics, chords, audio files, and software.

These folks put out some AMAZING worship songs, in a style very similar to that of CCC's worship services (i.e. raw, folksy, acoustic). You can download mp3s, charts, and more from their site. |

Our CCC Summer Staff people have read a lot of good books to help develop their faith. Each year, staff folks are assigned a book to read prior to the summer to help challenge them to live more like Jesus and to give them a proper mindset coming into the summer. Below are some of the "summer staff readings" of years past and present, as well as some additional recommendations.

Carolina Cross Connection places a big emphasis on "taking the experience home." We want to empower our campers to do more than simply serve one week out of the summer, but to continue to serving others and growing in faith every day of their lives. To that end, CCC is partnering with some other ministries that we believe offer youth great opportunities for continuing their commitment of being followers of Christ and Fishers of Men.

- "devozine is a devotional magazine designed just for youth and is written by teenagers and by adults who work with and care about teens. The purpose of devozine is to encourage young people to develop a lifelong practice of spending time with God and of reflecting on what God is doing in their lives. Each issue of the bi-monthly, 80-page, full-color magazine focuses on nine weekly themes, which include weekday meditations, a weekend feature article, and a variety of ways to dig deeper into faith and practice.
As a companion to devozine, we publish with each issue the Guide for Mentors and Small Groups. The Guide includes easy-to-use session plans on each of the themes in devozine and helps youth leaders build on the practice of daily devotions by incorporating devozine into a variety of youth ministry settings.
The vision for devozine has always included a worldwide community of teens encouraging and challenging each other. Our website — www.devozine.org -- helps to fulfill this vision by giving you the opportunity to hear what other teens have to say about life and faith, as well as a chance to share your faith stories, your poetry, your prayers, your opinions, and your writing."

- "If your church does it, we’ve probably got it. It’s been said that tool companies don’t sell drills; they sell holes. The same goes for Group. We don’t just sell books, curriculum, training, Bibles, software, etc. We’re in the business of making you even better at what you do in ministry. We want you to feel joy and fulfillment as you connect people with Jesus.
That said, Group does offer a wide range of resources and services for just about every area of church ministry: children’s ministry, youth ministry, adult small groups, women’s ministry, pastoral ministry, and more."

- "Rice Bowls is one of the easiest and most effective ways for your organization – church, school, business, or community group – to have an impact on the escalating orphan crisis around the world.
These small bowls are provided at no cost to you. When filled with change, the funds from Rice Bowls supply much needed food to a strong network of loving, Christian Orphanages. As a faith-based non-profit, we work directly with these orphanages, which are currently in India, Haiti, and Sub-Saharan Africa, where the HIV/AIDS crisis, as well as other factors, have greatly marginalized the lives of children. We invite you to take a minute to learn how free Rice Bowls can help your organization carry out its goals of making a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable children.

- "The Society of St. Andrew is a national, Christian nonprofit, non-denominational ministry dedicated to gleaning America’s fields and feeding America’s hungry by saving fresh produce that otherwise would go to waste and distributing it to hunger-relief agencies across the nation. We provide healthy, nutritious produce to society’s most vulnerable through innovative, cost effective programs: the Potato Project, the Gleaning Network, and Harvest of Hope. We provide fresh food to the hungry for about 2 cents per serving! The Society of St. Andrew is unique among hunger relief organizations for many reasons. Here are just four things that set us apart:
- We supply fresh fruits and vegetables vital for nutrition rather than high caloric 'filler food' to our society’s most vulnerable. That means we are helping to improve their health and well-being as well as giving them full stomachs.
- Unlike many organizations, we don’t charge handling fees. We provide fresh, nutritious food to agencies serving the poor at no cost to them, which helps them stretch their already tight budgets.
- We build community by bringing people together in farmers' fields or around 'dumped' loads of potatoes to work collectively in the cause of helping their needy neighbors.
- We recognize the spiritual component of helping others and therefore offer a variety of education programs, Bible studies, and seasonal devotions designed to feed people's spiritual hungers as they help feed the physical hunger of others.
The Society of St. Andrew adheres to Christian principles of good stewardship. More than 90% of all funds raised are spent on the direct delivery of food to the hungry. And we operate across the nation!"
